Seeing Green

I wish my title could refer to dollar signs but unfortunately it has to do with what I saw when I opened up my dryer yesterday afternoon.  I forgot to check all my pockets and washed a bright green crayon with some of mine and Belly Boo's things.

The crayon.  And a very nicely spotted pack-n-play sheet.

My white cardigan.

Belly Boo's purple cords.

After a half hour of freaking out and figuring out what to do, I decided to try the following:  I placed my regular detergent and a cup of baking soda in the washing machine with our crayon speckled clothing and did a soak cycle with warm water.  It sat for a half an hour, and then I washed the clothing on warm with an extra rinse.

Guess what?  Everything is clean, minus my white cardigan (of course) which has a tiny little green speck on the sleeve.

I'm happy, and no longer seeing green on everything.  And if you're in need of a stain remover guide for Crayola products on pretty every much surface imaginable, go here, it's a life saver!

That Time I Tweeted Someone Famous

So my favorite band, Death Cab for Cutie is doing a small club tour and I desperately wanted tickets....but they sold out way too fast and are on other sites for wayyyy too much money.  So in my deep disappointment, I sent one of the band members a tweet and (eep!) got one back.

This almost makes up for not getting a ticket.

Music Monday, Vol 4

Only because the hubs played this song approximately 20 times yesterday afternoon, and because it's pretty catchy.

Currently Addicted to...

My current addictions:

Goya Pico de Gallo Salsa
I'm not much of a salsa person, but this stuff is amazing.  Seriously.
Go get yourself some.  Right now.

Angry Birds
I know, a little behind hitching a ride on the Angry Birds train but hey, I'm here.  I have to play with the sound on because I love hearing all the noises from the birds and the pigs.
If you're as much of an Angry Birds fan and have an Android phone go to Amazon.com right now...they have Angry Birds: Rio for free!!

Homemade Oreo Cookies
I don't think this needs a further explanation.

Quilt Update: Picking Fabrics

This week I ordered my fabric for my quilt on Etsy, and it is absolutely beautiful!  I love all the colors and couldn't wait to start working on it tonight.  I purchased the solid colored fabric and background fabric from from a local JoAnn fabric store.

I am using fabrics from the Kumari Garden collection.  Great quality and wonderful feel to them!

All the fabrics that I purchased in my bundle.

Solid fabrics to help balance out the patterns.

This white fabric is so pretty and dainty, I just love it!  This will be the fabric for my background.

This is the fabric for the center of all my flowers.
It's not as bright in person, but it has an adorable leaf pattern to it.

I made my first flower tonight.  It's so pretty and I wish I had the energy to keep going.  Tomorrow is supposed to be ugly and rainy, so maybe I will get another flower or two done then.  :-)

Belly Boo...

Last week I ordered some adorable headbands, and to my surprise she just loves wearing them.  They look so cute on her...but they make her look so much more grown up which makes me a tad bit sad.

Music Monday, Vol 3

Occasionally I'll do Music Monday, I think this is the third time I've done it, but maybe not.  Either way I should do it more often.

Anyways, I saw a tweet about a live version of a new Death Cab for Cutie song and I happily bounced over to the website that was supposed to have it.  And it wasn't working.  So, I put a frowny face on, tried looking elsewhere and eventually gave up because I couldn't find it.  But yesterday I saw another tweet, and this link was working, and this song has been on repeat ever since.  It's soooo good.

The album comes out May 31...it's going to be a long wait but I'm positive that it will be worth it.  Just push play and thank me later. :-)

And now, some photos of my favorite boys.  Besides Mumford & Sons these are the only people I seriously fan girl over.
New album art!

A Grandmother's Flower Garden...

Yesterday I sat with a woman at church who pulled out a little bag with lots of colorful fabric scraps, and I was automatically intrigued.  After watching her work for a few minutes I asked her what she was making, and she told me a brief history of the Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt (sometimes called the English Flower Garden quilt).  She was kind enough to show me how it's done, and I knew that this was a project for me.

It might take me a decade.  And I might just give up and make pillows with them instead, but they are so beautiful and timeless...I can't wait to pick out fabrics for it!

Rain, Rain, Go Away

It's raining.  And this is our second big rain storm this week.  I'm beginning to forget what the sun actually looks like.  The sun does still exist, right?

All kidding aside, this week has been very long and for the most part uneventful.  I've been working on some new items for the etsy shop that I'm really excited to post and in between the rain storms we did some yard work outside.  We're planting our own little garden this summer and have some other plans to revamp the other outside areas.  Can't wait!

Anyways, here's the view outside our front door right now.  Lovely, right?  Perfect day for sweats and doing nothing.

Enjoy your Thursday everyone...hopefully it's not as soggy and gray where you are!

Put a Bird On It

We watch Portlandia on IFC.  If you don't watch it, I think you need to run to your TV or computer and do so now.  You'll thank me.  Promise.

One of my favorite shorts from the show is Put a Bird On It.  Which is funny, because over the summer the hubs and I made a painting for our mantle with (you guessed it) birds.  And if you frequent Etsy then you know that there are literally birds on everything.

Here's a picture of our painting.

And here's a still from the short.  Look, it's our bird!

Here's the whole short if you'd like to see it, thanks to Youtube.

The Handwriting Game

I was tagged by Pandraa to play the handwriting game.  It sounded (and looked) like fun so I figured I would play along.

I'm left handed, so growing up I didn't always have the neatest handwriting.  It took a lot of practice and patience for me to find a style I liked and I was constantly changing my penmanship style.  It still changes occasionally depending on my mood or how rushed I am.  Anyways, here is my handwriting!

If you want to play along here's what you have to do.  Grab a pen and paper and follow these 8 prompts:

  1. What's your name/blogger name?
  2. Write your blog URL.
  3. Write "The quick brown fox runs over the lazy dog."
  4. Favorite quote?
  5. Favorite song?
  6. Favorite band/singer?
  7. Write anything else on your mind.
  8. Tag 3 bloggers to participate!
I'm not sure these guys will actually play, but Alyssa & Jas - tag!  You're it!

Is anyone else playing?  Leave a comment with a link to your post if you do!

Parenthood

Sometimes I feel really bad when I can't get together with my friends - that I can't just drop everything on a whim and take a weekend to visit them.  And sometimes I would love to do that, but I can't.  I have responsibilities.

When I found out I was pregnant, I traded in my college textbooks for books like What to Expect When You're Expecting and What to Expect the First Year.
I traded sleeping in late for not sleeping at all.
I gave up cute clothing for myself and could've cared less when I got spit up on a sweater.
I stressed over figuring out how many diapers and outfits to pack instead of my thesis statement .
When my baby feels pain, I'm in pain with her and we cry together.
And when she learns something new, or does something silly, I literally beam with pride.

So maybe I'm not the best friend ever, and I'm not as attentive as I used to be, but friendship works both ways.  One day you'll understand the sacrifices, and you'll probably feel the same way I do.

Because being a parent means you sacrifice your free time to work on potty training.
And you don't stay out until 3am like you used to.
You don't care that your shoes and shirt and purse don't match, you're just glad to get out of the house in one piece.
Because you're not just responsible for yourself anymore.

Because the first time you set eyes on them your world is absolutely perfect and you can't remember your life before they were a part of it.

March

Yup,  I just wrote that.  It is March.  So far 2011 is flying by at lightning speed.

Right now I'm working on a few projects.  I'm making curtains and matching pillows for a family member, in the middle of sewing number bean bags for Belly Boo to play with and scrap booking as much as I can.  As always I'm working on new items for North Street Studio.

On to more exciting news!  We've been working with Belly Boo and trying to get her to use her potty.  Tonight for the first time after her bath she peed on the potty for the first time!!  We are so proud of her!
